Solid metal versus plated: what the difference means for you

Plated jewelry is a thin layer of precious metal over a base metal such as brass. It looks the same on day one. By month six, the plating on the parts that touch skin has usually worn through, and the piece either turns dull or starts to discolor.

Solid metal is the same all the way through. It scratches, as all metal does, but a scratch in sterling silver can be polished out. A scratch in plating cannot.

Juvelta works only in solid sterling silver and solid 14k gold. The pieces cost more to make, and we would rather make fewer of them than switch to plating to reach a lower price point.

We will publish the metal content of every piece in the collection, and each piece is stamped so you can verify it yourself.
